The Florida Writers Conference is a great place to hone your skills as a writer and learn about the business side of the equation as well. The conference blog not only features information about the conference itself, but also on writing, the tools of the trade, and the business side of the fence. It's a great conference. You should come.

And I'm not just saying that because I'm the Marketing director. For the moment, though, I'm spending most of my time and energy on that blog, so please come on over and join the fun.

My first real introduction to the business of writing came at the Florida Writers Conference a few years back. I've been to either two or three of this conference and one Sleuthfest conference, so I'm not an expert by any means.

However, I will say this: if you're serious about getting published or getting motivated about writing, you should set aside some money and attend a conference. The Florida Writers Conference will take place October 23-25 at the Orlando Marriott Lake Mary. (In other words, it's the Lake Mary Marriott, but they had to work the word Orlando into the name somehow.)

This year's conference includes two keynote presentations. The first is from James O. Born, a published mystery author who also works for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE). He's a great speaker with interesting stories. The second is from Bob Sanders, from Mundania Press, who will talk about the future of publishing. There will also be agents and publishers galore, as well as sessions to help you improve your craft and your understanding of the business.
