What Free Stuff Should You Give?

Let's say you don't have a treasure trove of short stories. What free stuff should you give? Even if you don't feel like writing a short story, you still have ample choices for giving out free stuff.

Let's say you're a non-fiction author writing about the plight of migrant farm workers in this country. In your research, you've probably done a number of interviews with people who can speak with authority on the problems migrants face. If you get your interviewee's permission, you can transcribe an interview and post it on your website.

When you're offering free stuff, not all of it has to be yours, either. For instance, if you're writing about migrant farm workers, you can also link to sites of interest, such as the United Farm Workers site, as well as any number of blogs or other sites of interest.

Also, if you have a blog, you can allow comments, meaning your readers have the ability to talk directly to you any time they want.

If you're a novelist, short stories could be your hook. Or, if your novel is about migrant farm workers, you have all the same options as if you were writing non-fiction.

If you're a mystery novelist, you could interview a real, live private investigator, or blog about the citizen's police academy where you live and the ride-along you got to experience.

Your imagination is the only limit. Give your readers a reason to pull out their wallet and give you money.

Coming up, we'll talk about how to make your free stuff available.
