Another Opinion On Social Media for Authors

Michelle Gagnon is a mystery writer who joined up with other mystery writers to write a blog called Killzone. It's a good read. In this entry, she discusses social media for authors. One of the first things Penny Sansevieri told me was the exact right number of social media outlets for you is the number you can manage.

Bottom line: there's no right or wrong way to do this. Just dive in, do what you can, and drop the things that don't work. Social media is a tool; it should never become the master.

Hi Chris! Good post. Over at the Kill Zone in the comments on the day of Michelle's social networking post, http://tinyurl.com/cokduj , we seemed to divide into Twitter vs. Facebook aficionados. It seems as if Twitter sends the most referring links to the blog these days, and I'm sure we're not unique in that experience. But that varies widely from day to day. By the way, I'm now 'following' you on Twitter! See you in the social networking sphere!

Thanks for the comment!

I don't see them as mutually exclusive. Considering the reduction in marketing money being spent for books, both can be used to reach an audience. The audience might differ slightly, but those two, along with blogging, blog book tours, and tools like Blog Talk Radio are complementary.

Thanks again!
